Teaching Slang
Is it necessary, or even desirable, to teach slang in the classroom? On the one
hand, slang is an integral part of language, and since students will almost
certainly hear it sometimes, it makes sense for them to be able to understand
it. On the other hand, slang is by definition undesirable language, so teaching
it and hearing it used are not necessarily the easist thing in the world. What
do you think about teaching slang in the classroom?
