G Verbs
There are a number of Spanish verbs
which are regular in all but the first person singular. These are known as G
verbs, because the first person singular requires an unexpected G: caer,
hacer, poner, salir, traer, valer.
-IAR Verbs
Most Spanish verbs that end in -IAR are conjugated like regular -AR verbs. But
there are some Spanish -IAR verbs that need an acute accent on that letter in
certain conjugations.
Indirect
Object Pronoun Verbs
There are about
a dozen Spanish verbs which must be conjugated with an indirect
object pronoun. This grammatical construction does not exist in English,
but it's not difficult once you get used to it.
Pronominal Verbs
Pronominal verbs are often incorrectly referred to as reflexive verbs, when in
fact the latter are just one type of pronominal verb. The defining
characteristic of pronominal verbs is that their subjects are acting upon
themselves.
Spelling Change Verbs
Spelling change verbs undergo consonant changes in
certain conjugations. There is a very specific logic behind this which has to do with a certain aspect of Spanish pronunciation.
Stem-Changing Verbs
Stem-changing verbs are those that have a spelling change in the stem of most
forms. Many common Spanish verbs are stem-changing, so be sure to learn how to
conjugate them with this lesson.
-UAR Verbs
Spanish verbs that end in -UAR are conjugated with the same endings as
regular -AR verbs, but most -UAR verbs require accents in certain
conjugations.
