Haber - To Have, To Be

The Spanish verb haber is irregular in conjugation.

yo	he	nosotros	hemos
tú	has	vosotros	habéis
él, ella, Ud.	ha	ellos, ellas, Uds.	han

Haber is not used as a normal action or state-of-being verb like, say, tener or ser. Haber is most commonly used as an auxiliary verb to mean "to have," or as an impersonal verb to mean "to be."

Auxiliary verb
As an auxiliary verb in the compound tenses, haber means "to have."
¿Has comido?	Have you eaten?
Ya he comido aquí.	I've already eaten here.

Impersonal verb
Haber has a different conjugation as an impersonal verb: hay, which means "there is/are."
¿Hay un problema?	Is there a problem?
Hay mucha gente.	There are a lot of people.
