Spanish language Ello - Pronombre sujeto neutro - Spanish Neuter Subject Pronoun

Ello is the Spanish neuter subject pronoun, used to mean "it" when referring to something non-specific. When referring to something specific, use "él" or "ella," depending on the gender of the noun.

Compare:

¿Qué pasa? Ello no me gusta. What's happening? I don't like it.
vs  
¿Qué es esta bebida? Ella no me gusta. What's this drink? I don't like it.
   
Todo ello se está terminando. Everything is ending.
vs  
¿La fiesta? Ella se está terminando. The party? It's ending.

Ello can also be the neuter object of a preposition:

Todo fue difícil - no quiero hablar de ello. Everything was difficult - I don't want to talk about it.
vs  
¿Qué tal fue la escuela?
No quiero hablar de ella.
How was school?
I don't want to talk about it.
   
¿Qué vas a hacer?
No te preocupes por ello.
What are you going to do?
Don't worry about it.
vs  
¿Dónde está tu libro?
No te preocupes por él.
Where is your book?
Don't worry about it.
